I recently discovered this Craigslist ad for a 50,000 mile 2013 Hyundai Elantra in a rare combination.
Here, take a look:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
First off, someone doesn’t know how to clean their car.
Second, someone doesn’t know how to take photos.
Third, THEY ARE PARKED ON A BIKE PATH FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
Fourth, they don’t know how to write
This is a one of a kind it’s very clean in and out maintenance is up to date has current emissions no engine lights mileage only 50k original clean title in hand it’s also a manual
Clearly something is wrong, because $5,600 for a marginally neglected 50,000 mile car is very cheap. Especially one as popular as the Elantra.
Edit: Many people have commented, pointing out the obvious paint mismatch. Clearly this has been in an accident and I’m not surprised.
I like the interior color scheme, but there is clearly more at play here.
I think the story goes as follows:
1. Driver inherits 10,000 miles Elantra
2. Driver thrashes it for 40,000 miles driving for Uber
3. Driver expects a quick flip but is too belligerent to make a proper ad or even do a quick vacuum.
4. Driver parks on bike path
The driver is clearly belligerent because one does not simply park your car on a bike path. I know exactly where that is too, and you would have to try quite hard to put it there.
What is your take on this?

So much beige. So Craigslist.
Yeah I don’t know WTF that is. Scam/spam maybe?

Also pretty obvious paint mismatch on the driver’s side doors.

Meh. The KBB on a similarly equipped car is $5200-7200 in “fair” condition. Note the paint mismatch on the driver’s door. Thing’s had a hard 50k miles. Price is too high IMO.

Ooh, and the rear bumper cover and trunk lid look like they’ve been resprayed as well.

No way would I buy a car that looks this bad after 50,000 miles. Didn’t notice the respray but now that I see it this is even more of a red flag.

Or someone who can wear out a car in record time looking for a quick flip. . . while carrying out a vendetta against cyclists.

Rear bumper cover and trunk lid as well. Though done better. Some slight difference on the front bumper cover/fender as well, but it seems questionable to me. Panel gaps on rear bumper cover look somewhat fucky to me. This generation of Elantra had better fit and finish from the factory than this. This car was lightly wrecked.

Yes, probably a rebuilt title as well. Clearly hacked together for a quick buck.

The price is right for a buy here/pay here IMO. If it’s truly a clean title (for insurance purposes) and whatever wreck it was in left no structural damage, I would be comfortable paying ~4k for it. There’s nothing wrong with driving a previously wrecked car, but this one seems pretty fishy.

And in general I don’t trust people who park on bike paths. Clearly someone just did not give a crap about this car, which is always worrying. Considering the obvious color differences, I’m not convinced it was repaired well either.

Also keep in mind that Atlanta has four Copart facilities. This seems suspect to me.

Yes, very, which is why I posted it. Mainly just because I wanted to ridicule the parking.

Asserting dominance over lesser two wheeled transportation

I’m shocked that the KBB is that high. Hyundai/Kia cars seem to have zero resale because the extremely long high-mileage warranty is only for the original buyer to my knowledge. It’s a car you buy expecting to drive it until it’s well beyond 100k (then sell for a few grand on CL) or until it dies (then sell for a few hundred to a junkyard) .

I’m pretty sure the warranty is transferable. Or at least it used to be.
At this point they’re as reliable as anything else. 15 years ago they were for sure crapcans.

Open y'alls eyes the color change or mismatch is from shadows of trees & sun reflecting glare. Y'all just wanna pick a words war or discredit someone whom may really need to sell car for financial reasons. An all yall gossiping like school girls is a witch hunt to be dicks. A lonely existence no better the that cop whom killed FLOYD! Hurting other for your own sick insecurities.

Replying to this just so others can see it.
Looks like we found the seller. If it is just a lighting anomaly, update your ad with better pics. Also put the VIN in the ad. Thanks. P rotip: clean the interior, it will help you sell the car.
Yeah, speculating about a mildly iffy looking used car for sale in a location known for rebuild auctions is the same as murdering someone. T hanks for the hysterics, in these trying times, a laugh is appreciated.
